It was not a conventional website to build. The fashion industry has its own conceptual aspect, and this website, despite being an e-commerce platform, somehow had to convey that too. Tailored font and colours, more than a thousand uploads, customised functionalities, and minimalistic layouts are the outcome of six months of close collaboration with the client. Before getting started on the new website, we had to prepare a sort of "holding page" for the existing domain. That was the moment when I realised that the project would have been quite different from the explainers and the other corporate websites I had been working on before.
I have asked the client to put together a mood-board, in order to visually describe his preferences. Luckily for me, it was incredibly detailed with brand assets, images, colours and captions that made me grasp the direction he was willing to take.
Nonchalant, Human, Storytelling were some of the key words to work with, alongside the specific style requirements such as Handwriting and Luxurious Taste.
I have first proposed my vision of the web pages through wireframes prompting the client to get back with his own mockups. Overall, it has been a great case of client and creative director collaboration that allowed us to be on the same track from day one.
Hence, the web design part slipped smoothly into the development phase where the project got slightly more challenging.
The initial ask was not to build a fully customised website from scratch, rather customise a WordPress template which was already unconventional enough. But some of the requirements made me alter that structure even more than I had previously expected. Thankfully, I was supported by a great troubleshooting team of developers and worked on it day by day for months. I was looking after the very meticulous handmade product uploads and setting up the first blog post templates and the look-books. I was also facilitating the quality assurance process for the SEO and mobile responsiveness.
