After a short visit to my hometown in Italy, we took the scenic route through the Amalfi Coast, squeezing in a couple more days of sunshine while staying at this gem of a hilltop place called Villa Alba D'Oro in Amalfi. On the afternoon we arrived, we leisurely strolled all the way down to the buzzing town, where Laurence managed to find me a vegan poke bowl (#veganinitaly, IYKYK - ah the challenges!), followed by a mandatory mega lemon sorbet, all while a full-on wedding unfolded at the famous Duomo.
The next day we woke up to an overcast Amalfi, with rain in the forecast. Did Laurence imagine sipping spritzes under the scorching sun? Yes. Did we get misty cliffs and wet cobblestones instead? Also yes. But sometimes when the sun's not stealing the show, you notice the little things more. The textures, the colours - everything hits differently and I really love that being myself an artist and photographer. So, clouds or not, into the car we went. Not your usual Amalfi Coast aesthetic, but still epic. And while hubby did the hard work driving those twisty, narrow roads, princess passenger here enjoyed the views and took the usual million pictures. You get to see so many little vignettes along the way, as well as passing through all the other charming coastal towns, all tucked between cliffs and sea.
After spending the day in colourful Positano, even though the weather was still "meh", we were not quite ready to call it a night just yet, given it was out last there, so we headed up to another town called Ravello for some bites and drinks at the charming Bar Caruso. We liked Ravello so much we had to come back to explore it some more the next morning when the coast was glowing in the sun once again. A laid-back aperitivo at Bar Maraviglia in Palazzo Avino, a little wander through the streets, a bit of shopping and one last delicious panino, then off to the skies back to London. Sad to say goodbye to summer, but this was such lovely sendoff!
