For the past 4 years my fiancé and I have been living in a one bedroom flat on the 3rd floor of a pretty new-ish building, and the flat itself came furnished with modern dark coloured pieces, lots of glass, and white glossy cabinets - not exactly my style but we loved the place because it had spectacular views of the river.

By contract we couldn't hang anything to the walls (which by the way were already decorated by the landlord with artwork and prints), neither those same walls could withstand rental-friendly solutions (we tried) - I always suffered that.

In addition to that, once both of us started working from home, we realised we needed more space and so the house hunting began! We were lucky because we had to visit only three houses to find the one.

The furnished pictures of the house on the listing gave us already the impression we were onto something special, but when we stepped inside it was a clear 'Yes, this is it'. The beautiful wooden floors, the cute fireplace, the big windows, the brightness, the in-built shelves everywhere and custom-made kitchen wooden countertop and bedroom slanted closets to accommodate the sloping angled ceiling were what made me fall in love with it.
But probably the thing I was craving the most was the sunlight streaming in. Such a simple thing, I know, but truly I missed it. In the current flat, being it north-facing, we never get direct sunlight apart from a few minutes of sunrise or sunsets during the summer months as the sun hits sideways our windows.

The new house though has south-facing windows and I am so thrilled! Sunlight blessing the furniture and creating beautiful shadow play really upgrades any home environment, especially so here in the UK where it is so, ahem, rare. And for me, as photo and video content creator, actual sunlight makes a huge difference.

I am now on furniture websites daily. My idea of dreamy interiors is a mix of mid-century modern, minimal, lots of neutrals and earthy shades, bohemian touches, scandi/hygge feeling situation. I am sure if you follow me on Instagram you know what I am talking about. I love rattan furniture, matte ceramics, and cozy textures. But I am not just about the beige aesthetic, as I also enjoy combining white, wood and accent colours such as golden, terracotta, muted mustard, dusty pink or pastel green, and luckily Laurence is totally on-board with all of that!
But first of all we are focusing on essentials, such as a king size mattress and a desk and chair for him. I don't really mind if we will be without sofas and dining tables for a while (I am actually looking forward to our romantic picnics on the floor, no kidding!), and sleeping on the mattress only until the bed platform arrives. I have been dreaming of creating the perfect home for so long (and my Pinterest boards can confirm that), so I am more than willing to take it easy and do it properly.

I am also very aware that some stuff nowadays might not be done looking after the customer's health - majority of mattresses and furniture are drenched in harmful chemicals (let alone materials being not sustainably sourced), so I am constantly on the look for better solutions that do no harm to our wellbeing as well as to the planet, such as  organic mattresses or a FSC-certified wood frames. They might be a tad more expensive and more difficult to find than the well-known furniture brands, but I will always put my health first before convenience.

So here it is, kicking off this new blog with an exciting project. Stay tuned as I will keep on logging all about the home decor journey as it comes along!
